Tauranga Moana Seafood Festival 2008

The first Tauranga Moana Seafood Festival held on the 29th Nov 2008 sold out with the atmosphere vibrant and energising. The weather was perfect with cloudless blue skies and beautiful warm temperatures to add to the memories.

At 5.30pm more than 3,000 people swarmed the gates to our little mermaids handing out the FREE wine goblet and the 35 metre tall Todd & Pollock cranes with RMD fishing nets hanging in the background, to symbolise the Moana (Sea) and Kaimoana (Seafood).

Many people came to feast on delicious kaimoana, some travelling from as far as Queenstown and Christchurch to experience this event. The crayfish was one of the first items to sell out, other popular items included the whitebait and paua fritters, seafood chowder and salmon kebabs. More variety of kaimoana is promised for this year, four times as many queues for fast and efficient service, and much larger quantities.

Many came with friends drinking fine wines, sharing conversations, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. Various entertainment acts such as local bands, fire dancers, and Ranginui kapahaka formed our entertainment line-up. The Cargo Shed was also opened showcasing the artistic flair of our talented community.
